As we face the challenges that climate change and environmental destruction represent, Sustainable Gastronomy Day reminds us that our food choices play a fundamental role in its conservation.
Therefore, at Pischán Restaurant we want to share with you the importance of commemorating this day and adopting greener habits, even in aspects that we didn’t think were necessary before.
So come and get ready to discover why this is a practice that deserves all our attention!
Sustainable gastronomy seeks not only to create a delicious culinary proposal, but also an environmentally responsible one. Therefore, during the elaboration process, it seeks to minimize its environmental impact and at the same time promote social and economic welfare.
But how does it do this? … Well, by taking care of its production and distribution chain, in other words, it takes into account from how the ingredients it uses are grown to how they reach the local markets and, finally, the consumers.
By taking all this into account, sustainable gastronomy aims to create a harmonious balance between culinary delights and ecological responsibility.
Although it may not seem like it, there are many ways in which gastronomy can impact the environment. As a fundamental aspect of our lives, food production, consumption and waste management can have long-term consequences.
For example, intensive agricultural practices, excessive use of pesticides and fertilizers, and long-distance transportation not only generate a significant carbon footprint, but also contribute to deforestation and water pollution.
However, adopting sustainable gastronomy can ease these negative effects. By opting for more respectful farming methods, local and seasonal ingredients, we can reduce food mileage, food waste and environmental damage.
As you can see, adopting a more environmentally friendly gastronomy is not impossible. In fact, at Pischán Restaurant, one of the best restaurants in Cobá, some of the practices we implement are the following.
Our 0KM philosophy is based on offering dishes where everything needed to prepare them can be found in or around Coba. This way, we reduce transportation distances and minimize our ecological footprint.
Based on this philosophy, we always use local and fresh ingredients, and we have even implemented a small orchard where we grow fruits such as lime and passion fruit.
We also purchase ingredients from the native families of Cobá, such as honey from Xunancab, corn, cornfield seeds and handmade tortillas, helping to preserve the Mayan cuisine!
Another practice we have taken is the permanent use of a virtual menu by QR. Although it is a simple action, it has a great impact on the reduction associated with printing and paper waste.
So if you are in Cobá and want to commemorate this great day with a delicious sustainable cuisine, Pischán Restaurant is a place you can’t miss. To start this culinary journey we invite you to book through our direct line 998 342 0198 or if you prefer through our website.
Finally, remember that there is no right way to celebrate sustainable gastronomy day. You can do it by saving water, changing your habits and even sharing this philosophy with more people!
